The journey from Athens airport to the island is very simple. Below, we have listed the various methods of transportation available:-
Athens International Airport to Piraeus Port......
Airport Express Coach:- The ‘X96’ Airport Express Coach runs 24 hours a day, approximately every 30 minutes. This service departs from right outside the arrivals lounge and takes between 60 and 90 minutes to get to Piraeus. Prices are currently 3.2 euro per person. There is space on board for luggage. Whilst the coach makes a few stops along the way, we have found this method to be one of the easiest and most cost effective ways of getting to the port. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the kiosk next to the bus stop. Remember to validate your ticket by inserting it into the orange ticket machine located inside the coach!
Taxis:- The taxi rank is located outside the arrivals building and there are usually plenty of them available. Prices vary but an average price should be around 25 euro (expect to pay more if it’s after 11pm and before 6am). Taxis are quicker than the coach but please be aware that not all of them speak English (or at least claim not to) and are not averse to overcharging! A new law requires the driver to provide you with a receipt. Whilst nearly all taxis have the machines installed, most of them don’t appear to be using them. We’ve had wonderful experiences with some excellent taxi drivers and also, some who have been less helpful! Our advice would be that if you have time, take the coach. If time is short then by all means go for a taxi. If you intend to travel via taxi, please feel free to contact us and we’ll happily tell you what you need to say to the driver to get you to the port. You are less likely to be overcharged if you speak to them in Greek. Don’t panic, we’ll spell it out for you phonetically!
Metro:- The new metro extension now allows visitors to travel from Athens airport to Piraeus port. Current timetables show the journey time to be 60 minutes with a price of 8 euro per person (3 euro for under 18’s and over 65’s). The journey requires a change of trains in central Athens and its approximately 5 minutes walk from the metro station in Piraeus to the boats. Again, if you’re pushed for time, then it’s worth considering.

Piraeus Port to Aegina Town & Souvala....
Hellenic Seaways:- Hellenic ferries sail directly from Piraeus to Aegina Town and Souvala. These boats normally take between 60 and 90 minutes and sail roughly every 2 hours. Sailing’s start around 6:30am with the last boat being around 8:30pm (later in high season). Ticket prices and sailing times vary depending on which boat you take, but you should expect to pay approximately 6 euro per person. If using the Hellenic ferries, you don’t have to take your suitcases up to the passenger deck. There is typically a racked area on the left hand side of the car deck that always has parcels and suitcase storage. Leaving them here is perfectly safe. Announcements are made (in Greek & English) when you arrive at your destination. You will find a licensed bar and snacks available on board. The Hellenic boats take a little longer but are a very pleasant way of getting to the island. You can view sailing timetables by visiting the Hellenic Seaways website. Please be aware that ferry times are usually only posted a week in advance. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us
Hydrofoils:- The Hydrofoils sail directly from Piraeus to Aegina town. The sailing time is only 40 minutes but the ticket price reflects this (approximately 11 euro per person). This service offers a regular, fast and convenient way of getting to the island. Our advice is that if you have the time and want to keep costs down then take one of the Hellenic boats. However, if you’re pushed for time or don’t mind paying extra, then the Hydrofoil is definitely the way to go. Hydrofoils sail pretty much on the hour, every hour, from 7am to 7pm. For sailing timetables, please visit the Hellenic Seaways website.
Piraeus Port to Aghia Marina....
We currently have only one company sailing from Piraeus to Aghia Marina. The ferry takes approximately 75 minutes. Tickets are currently 5 euro per person. This company is small and as such do not have a website. Sailing schedules are announced (in true Greek style) as and when they feel like it. Please contact us us just prior to your departure for the latest sailing information.
The island of Aegina to your accommodation.....
If you arrive in Aegina Town, you will find the taxi rank located at the port. The journey to the Danae Hotel costs 3 euro and takes less than 5 minutes. Prices to Aghia Marina and Souvala range from 8 to 10 euro and the journey takes approximately 20 minutes. Taxi drivers in Aegina do not have to provide receipts but they are very honest. Regardless of your nationality, you are very unlikely to be overcharged. Simply tell the driver which resort you want to go to and then the name of your accommodation (this can nearly always be spoken in English). All the taxi drivers know where our accommodations are.
